Transform your Living Space with Style

If you are open to the ‘improve, not move’ mindset then transforming your living space could give you the room that you need without the hassle of relocating. Not only can you save yourself the stress of moving house but you could also add to the value of your home.

Let’s take a look at some interesting ways to increase the appeal of your property and give you a home to be proud of.

Build a Glass Corridor

A glass corridor works as a seamless connection between an existing property and an extension and can also work on new builds. There is no bulk of blockwork or brick to detract from the structure. Meanwhile, the streamlined and minimalist appearance of the glass enhances the existing building and floods the area with natural light.

Not only can a glass corridor complement the beauty of your home and provide a striking design feature but it can also be practical. Linking your home to a detached garage, workshop or guest accommodation with glass solves many design dilemmas and provides a pragmatic but visually appealing solution.

Extend Outward

When looking to maximise the living space in your property, a ground-floor extension is usually the first option. Building outward can provide a larger kitchen/diner, an extended living room or a bespoke home office. A single storey extension can be a rear extension, a side return or a wrap-around extension. Which you choose will depend on what you want to achieve, building regulations and your budget.

A rear extension, as the name suggests increases the footprint of the house by building out from the back of the property. A side return utilises unused space to the side of the house, usually an alley or part of the garden. Finally, a wrap-around extension is a combination of these two and wraps around the ground floor of the property.

Create a Spa Bathroom

If you want to transform your living space with style a spa bathroom is the perfect addition. Create a sanctuary where you can retreat after a long day at work or unwind after doing housework all day.  Start by painting the walls in soothing, earthy tones like pale green or calming grey and avoid any garish colours. Alternatively, go for luxury with marble effect tiles on the walls and floor. Underfloor heating is a must particularly under natural stone tiles to create that cosy spa feeling beneath your feet.

Introduce large mirrors to the walls to reflect the natural light coming into the bathroom and accentuate the artificial light. Don’t forget your accessories. Natural fabrics such as linen or cotton for your towels, robes and soft furnishings add to the luxurious atmosphere you want to create. And finally, add some relaxing scented candles and high-end toiletries.

Install a Garden Pod

Ditch the boring wooden shed and put a stylish garden pod in your garden. These standalone structures can be used for a variety of purposes such as a home office, hobby room or even a guest bedroom. They don’t need any foundations and most don’t require planning permission although you should check if you want to install one of the larger models.

There are many designs, with some pods resembling glass spheres and others which mimic shepherd’s huts. Some styles are more conventional but all are very stylish and modern. Garden pods are a great way to increase the living space in your home without the upheaval and stress of building work.
